Update 17th Jan - Fast Broadband is coming to the Village !

At the October meeting of the Parish Council, County Broadband presented their Parish Partnership proposal to the Parish Council. This follows several meetings with County Broadband over the past 3 months. During Jan/Feb of this year, the Parish plan Group conducted a Broadband access speed survey and 160 responses were received (See full report on the Home Page under the Parish Plan tab). This survey was conducted because of the dissatisfaction expressed concerning the speed of Broadband, by those completing the Parish Plan questionnaire.

The speed test has revealed that a practical maximum speed of 6Mbps is available for some users connected to the Marks Tey exchange, but elsewhere in the Village speeds of less than 1Mbps are commonplace. This is unacceptable for the majority of residents of the Village.

The Parish Council is entering a Heads Of Agreement with County Broadband to provide a Wireless Broadband service covering the majority of the Village. This service will provide a number of speed options from 1Mbps to 35Mbps with packages ranging from £4.99 to £24.99 per month. The "Home Standard package with a download speed of 12Mbps and upload of 6Mbps will cost £9.99 per month with a 1Gb per month data limit. (Higher data limits up to 100Gb are available)

The Parish Council needs to gauge the level of interest before any commitments are made to go ahead with a new Broadband system for the Village so please make every effort to attend this meeting.

Update 8th Dec

Over 50 Villagers attended the meeting on Sat 3rd Dec which demonstrates the level of interest in providing a faster Broadband service for the Viilage. 38 Households completed the Survey form stating that they were either Very Likely or Likely to subscribe to a new Wireless Broadband Network. The Parish Council will be debating this project at their next meeting on Wed 14th Dec and will be making a decision on whether or not to proceed with this project. If approval is forthcoming the project will commence in Mid Feb 2012 and complete March/April.

Update 23rd Dec

The Parish Council has voted to go ahead with the Fast Broadband Project and the contract with County Broadband will be signed shortly. It is anticipated that the project will commence in Mid Feb. More information in terms of timescales will be published shortly

The Parish Council has signed the Partnership Agreement with County Broadband and the project is now moving to the next stages.
