Village LifeEight Ash Green Village Festival 2010Mid-July once again saw the Eight Ash Green Festival take place on the heath fusing music with arena events and a wide variety of stalls. Following the now usual blustery morning we had a fine afternoon and evening which brought out the largest crowd to have attended in the 5 years that the festival has been running. A major attraction in the arena was an appearance by local magician and star of TV, Michael J Fitch who proved what a trooper he was when he had to re-think his routine due to a power failure. However, he must have enjoyed the reaction of the crowd as he has agreed to return next year (this time with power!). The dog agility club's display was popular with young and old and particularly with the dog owners from the village who had brought their own 'best friends' along for the mutt show which again saw many and varied entries. As always thanks go to all those volunteers who manned stalls, acted as runners, and particularly to the small band on the organising committee who do so much in the back ground to put together the festival, which so many enjoy. As they say many hands make light work and anyone is welcome to join the committee or just put their name forward if they can help delivering leaflets, collecting donations or simply on the day. A marvellous range of bands offered their services to perform at the festival, reflecting its growing reputation and Steve Billimore's persuasive enthusiasm. Musical styles from acoustic folk, alternative and progressive rock, and indie took us through the afternoon, into a lovely summers evening culminating with a grand firework display and the Outlaw Eagles closing off the festivities with covers of the legendary band. Thanks must also go to all the local and not so local business who supported the festival with donations and adverts allowing us to produce programmes and a great range of fantastic raffle prices. If you enjoyed it this year make sure you tell family and friends to come along on 16th July as the committee aim to make next year even bigger and more fun for all. |
